To take it by mouth, open the packet and mix the granules in applesauce or apple juice.
Sprinkle the granules on 1 teaspoon of applesauce and swallow all of the mixture right away.
Follow with sips of water.
To make sure you take the entire dose, rinse the cup once or twice with apple juice to mix any remaining granules, and swallow the juice.
Do not prepare the mixture ahead of time for later use.
What happens if I miss a dose?
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
What should I avoid while taking Protonix?
This medication can cause diarrhea, which may be a sign of a new infection. If you have diarrhea that is watery or bloody, stop taking Protonix and call your doctor. Do not use anti-diarrhea medicine unless your doctor tells you to. Follow your doctor's instructions about any restrictions on food, beverages, or activity.
